ADDED FAN CPU HP WORKSTATION Z8

Goodmorning everyone,
I bought a new hp z8 g4 workstation. I need to buy an additional cpu. I purchased the processor (identical to the one already present)
I can not find a suitable heat sink.
I purchased this: http://store.supermicro.com/heatsink/2u-active-cpu-cooler-snk-p0068ap4.html

But the fan on the processor is not recognized.
The motherboard has 5-pin connections, while the fan has only 4.

 

Obviously I have already contacted HP, I was told that, there is no original spare part at the moment.

The original heatsink block has this part number Part Number: 9001197-001 REV A

password reset hp 6005 pro

good morning,

 

i'm a new employee, and received a used desktop to work. I need to set up a new boot password, but the desktop already has one, and the old employee was fired. I followed the instructions in the manual: I removed the green jumper, started the machine without it and then restarted, but still requesting the password when I try to enter the bios.

I count on your help.

chromebox CB1-014 slow motion failure Chrome OS missing or damaged

Chromebox CB1-014 begins a slow death spiral. 

 

"chrome os missing or damaged" message begins sporadic appearance - recoverable by power on/off for 4-6 weeks

 

then near death: "chrome os missing or damaged" cannot be cleared by power on/off

 

(1) resuscitated by performing Chrome OS Recovery procedure - downloading Chrome OS to USB memory stick then booting chromebox from USB memory stick

 

recovery appears to complete normallly

 

then after few days use, "chrome os missing or damaged" begins to reappear..... go back to (1)

 

after several cycles, run hardware diagnostics to see if any memory, network, storage hardware problems

NO PROBLEMS FOUND

 

call HP Support - $250 repair charge, bbbbbb uuuuuu ttttttt one can buy a new model for similar cost

 

is HP planned obscolescence for a "disposable" device with 2 year life????

 

is there a bug in Chrome OS software which causes this slow deterioration, not unlike a gradual memory leak?

New thin client very slow to bring up kiosk mode

Hello, we use a lot of thin clients in our organization. Recently we were told the 'old' t630 thin client was being discontinued, our rep pointed us to a newer model. 

We have several of this newer model onsite now, and it is extremly slow bringing up kiosk mode. It varies, but sometimes up to 10 minutes. (it is just supposed to pull up IE with a web page loaded)

The older model never had any issues like this. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed, and we use these pretty much as they are configured right out of the box. 

Any idea why this would be so slow to pull up in Kiosk mode?

Upgrade ESXi 5.1 to 6.0 fail

We ran into some problems when tried to upgrade from ESXi version 5.1.0, 799733 to ver 6.0.0, 6921384 using an HPE Custom ISO from VMware (VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-6921384-HPE-600.10.2.0.23-Feb2018). This is the error: Cannot execute upgrade script on the host. I looked into the vau.log and this is what I found: Alert:WARNING: This application is not using QuickExit(). The exit code will be set to 0.@ bora/vim/lib/vmacore/main/service.cpp:162. I followed the VMware KB2007167 but not applied to our problem.

Could you please prove an updated Intel ME driver version for that coumpter?

The software version that is installed:

And the version that is available at the HP driver download site is way outdated too.

Microserver N40L Raid configuration not coming up

Hi all,

 

I have an old Microserver N40L with equal drives a a lab machine.   At one point I remember being able to access the onboard RAID functionality by activating RAID in the BIOS, and then with CTRL-F when the raid message comes on the screen during boot, accessing the raid configuration menu.  

 

After setting it back to an ACHI config and formatting the drives for another project, I wanted to get back to setting up andother Raid 1 set, and after configuration the BIOS to RAID, no Raid message comes up to do the CTRL-F.  I tried just pressing CTRL-F at various times during boot in case i missed it, but now I cannot access the Raid configuration.  I know that the BIOS has registered the change because the drives are no longer accessible as they were in ACHI.

 

Any clues?

HP Z420 customizing to a quiet NAS / Virtual Host

I recently aquired a cheap HP Z420. Great specs and quality and specs, so I'm looking forward to joining the HP Z Mafia Smiley Happy

 

I plan on building a powerful multi-purpose machine capable of running a NAS, Plex and some virtual hosting. I've got most of the parts down, but the silencing of the machine is a challenge. It's not terrible, but since the box will be placed in the living room, it needs to be wife friendly Smiley Wink .. and it's just annoying to watch TV with a hum in the room.

 

I have the following questions after trawling the forums, reddit and youtube, without finding concise answers:

 

1) CPU cooler uses custom HP 5-pin connector. Have anyone succesfully switched to a quiet aftermarket cooler? Can custom made fan adapters be bought or made to fit eg. a Noctua?

 

2) Case fans? .. can they be replaced with other 4 pin fans?

 

3) Does the Z420 require a GPU with fan to not "compensate" by spinning up the rear case fan? I'll be running the machine as headless server, so I don't need the GPU to do anything else but boot the machine and do configs. I'd prefer a fanless basic card to reduce noise.

Hello, 

 

this is a bit unconventional question for the forums, as it is very general.

 

In my personal experience the HP desktop PC's are better than equivalent or better desktop PC's bought from no-brand vendors. The performance and reliability of HP products are superior, but so is the price.

 

The problem is, that on paper an average PC bought from non brand vendor has better specifications of hardware equipment and lower price. 

 

My question is: how does HP defend the higher price of their products. I would like to know if there are any standards or certificates that HP uses during the manufacturing or designing of brand PC's. Are the computres subjected to any performance / component compatibility tests during or before manufacturing,  to ensure that the components are in accordance with each other.

I've tried a few basic tests, but nothing so far works...

 

I have a blank screen... the fan on permanently and the Caps lock key is coding, 3 blinks, followed by 5 quick blinks?

Any ideas?

HP z420 & SSD M.2 Samsung 960 EVO

Hi, I have a "HP Z420 Workstation" and I wanted to install a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD. I cloned with both Samsung Data Migration and "MiniTool Partition". The disk is regularly viewed by Win10.
The problem is the configuration of the Bios so that it can start. Can you give me directions? (Only if someone has the same PC and the same disk).

928-Fatal PCIe error

I installed a PCIe card from National Instruments that will be used to communicate with hardware. Regardless of what card I use, everytime I try to use the PCIe card to communicate with something the Workstation restarts and shows the error message:

 

928-Fatal PCIe error. PCIe Poisoned TLP error detected on Slot 114. B:30 D:2 F:0

 

Press ENTER to continue

 

The following steps were done in order to troubleshoot if the card is the problem:

1. check if the PCIe card is seated properly in the x8 slot, it was.

2. Second, I transferred the card to x16 slot and still the same error.

3. Use the card on a different PC and it works fine.

 

Please advise how to proceed.

Is there a way to add DKMS Framework to HP ThinPro OS?

I am trying to get to a point where I can load the DisplayLink Ubuntu software, or try to, to support docking.  As such, one of the first steps is to add the DKMS framework.  Is there a way to add DKMS Framework to HP ThinPro OS?

Updated BIOS, nothing happened

I updated my BIOS using v2.28 I downloaded on this forum. it said it was updated successfully, but when I go back it's still v2.10
my graphics card isn't recognized and couldn't find the option to switch from just integrated card, that's why I'm updating.
I'm not well versed in this stuff and wish to get help, thank you.

Unable to dispute the warranty

Hello.

I have bought a new HP ProDesk 600 G3 Desktop Mini PC one week ago with the warranty of 3y/3y/3y. However, both 'HP Support Assistant' and 'HP Product Warranty Check' show that warranty period has started at 4 December 2017 and that I have 4 months less that I need.

Also I have the same problem with a new HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G3.

Both of itmes I bought from eBay USA.

 

I am unable to process the dispute warranty on line section to rectify. I have followed instructions to dispute the warranty, however I am not being displayed the option in which I could do so.
What are my options?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the purchase receipt.
