SAS CONTROLLER

Hello, I recently upgraded my graphics card to an MSI Radeon RX 580 and noticed my DVD wasn't playing at all.  I followed a youtube video where I went in and created another channel 1 in the atapi FOLDER which didn't work as there were no Lower filters or higher filters as well.  I then went into device manager and uninstalled the standard dual channel  PCI  IDE controller as per then instructions however it was nowhere to be found after I went to install again in device manager.  The message I get is it says it is there and on the contrary, says it missing when I do a system diagnostic report.  I tried doing the same thing through cmd  (reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001) as well and nothing worked to bring back my DVD player.

Then I uninstalled and reinstalled my Graphics card driver from Radeon and now it states that I am missing my SAS controller and don't know what to do next to get this controller back per what it states in controller properties " PCI bus 2 device 0 function 0  all drivers are not installed for this device."

Seems I am worse off missing the controllers and the standard dual channel  PCI IDE controller now than when I started just missing my DVD otherwise it was all running smoothly.

(ps I read another thread where Paul Tikkanen provide a download however when I tried it told me the drivers were out of date to what I already had on my computer so I didn't download not knowing if I can update them later anyways)

Appreciate any help, thanks
Brian

Can someone please confirm memory compatibility for HP Z420 v2?

Hello HP community & staff,

I need to upgrade my HP Z420 v2 workstation to the top spec of 64 GB 1866MHZ DDR3 RAM.

Can someone please confirm the following memory is compatible with the HP Z420 v2 mainboard?

CPU is the Xeon E5 1650 v2, PSU is 600 watt option:

Hynix 64GB 8X8GB PC3-14900E 2Rx8 DDR3-1866MHZ ECC Unbuffered

Its my understanding that the HP Z420 v2 requires ECC Unbuffered, I just need confirmation because I just found ECC Registered RAM in a Z420 v1 I have laying around that works fine and want to be sure I'm purchasing the right RAM for my v2.

I really appreciate the help in advance.

Best,

Chris

Edit: Found this great article explaining ECC registered vs unregistered:

ECC Registered vs Unregistered - Serve the Home

Also found out from the forums here that the HP Z420 does indeed work with both ECC registered & unregistered/unbuffered (I can also prove that as I have a Z420 running with 32gb registered).

From the article though seems as though unregistered would be the way to go for the Z420, seeing how its a performance-oriented system I don't think you'd want that extra hop between the CPU and Memory. Probably also explains why the manual states to use Unbuffered, but this is a recommendation, not a requirement.

Looking for a BIOS (firmware file)

Hello and good day to you.

I have a Z440 mb which appears to be partly bricked.

The information I have found (there was an advisory) gives a fairly easy process to follow, but, I'm not able to find the BIOS version that they're talking about.  https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c05163478

I'm looking for 2.20 or something close to that (not earlier though). The earliest I can find is 2.48.

Can anybody help?

Please and thank you.

Berold.

t530 compatible M.2 SATA SSD

I've got an HP t530 thin client that originally came equipped with a PSSBN032GA27MC0 32GB M.2 SATA SSD.

I attempted to swap it out with a known working Samsung 860 EVO 256GB M.2 SSD, but it fails to POST and hangs at the BIOS HP logo. This appears to be a bug (or "feature") in the UEFI firmware. There is at least one other unanswered topic in this forum about the same issue.

Is there any way to obtain a list (or personal experience) of known compatible SSDs for the t530? If I decide to give this upgrade another go, I'd like to at least be somewhat confident that the SSD will be compatible. I am interested in 128GB or larger drives.

Alternatively it'd be nice if a patched UEFI were released so I'm able to use the 860 EVO. I'm not going to get my hopes up, though.

The 860 EVO was at its latest firmware version when I tried this a few weeks ago. The t530 is running the latest BIOS available - 00.01.07 Rev.A. I tried the usual things like resetting CMOS.

For reference, here is the unanswered topic I mentioned dated 8/10/2019: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/SSD-Upgrade-T530-Thin-Client/td-p/7199913

Featurebyte CRC Error

So I had to replace the motherboard in my Z640, I bought a supposedly new board off of EBay. Installed it, booted it up, worked great. However a few reboots later and I get the missing info in the bios message. I tried interning the required field and they all tool except the featurebyte which kept failing due to CRC error. As far as I know this motherboard has never had one entered so I’m really puzzled as to what’s going on.

Best way to assign spare parts for business desktop and notebooks?

Hello,

are they any new ways to get part numbers for business desktop or notebooks?
Due to unlisted parts, the PartSurfer is getting more and more useless.

I miss the "Illustrated Parts & Service Maps" - these were a nice cheat sheet.

Also "After Market Options"... there are a few in the QuickSpecs, but the search for wifi cards, antenna kits (if available at all...) or even drive bay kits are sometimes very time-consuming.

By the way, what is the point of the extra "Hardware Reference Guide"?
In my opinion it could be merged with the "Maintenance and Service Guide".

Thank you,
Best regards,

Martin

Note: I have already posted this question with my old account (which is no longer active). I had forgotten the password and no longer had access to the email account. And yes, at that time I better would have written to HP instead of opening a new account - sorry! Unfortunately the thread is now closed because it is too old - unfortunately there was no answer anyway.

Z230 Boot Up seems impossible

My HP Z230 workstation stopped booting issuing a single beep, then spin up the fan, then off then repeat forever.

I saw a post that said pull the power plug and MB battery and the BIOS would reset.  I did this and now the computer beeps 5 times and does nothing, but the system fan will start after 15 seconds or so.  At no time do I ever see anything on the screen and since I have a USB keyboard I can't hit the F10 or any other key because the keyboard never gets recognized.  I feel like this thing is bricked at this point.  Is there ANY WAY to make this sucker restart in factory mode.

Is there a way to get around this problem?

I've opened the case (carefully) and jiggled the drive cables, memory modules and basically tried to make sure everything was properly seated.

This machine has run fine in as lately as yesterday.  Today no luck.  Any help greatly appreciated on this.

10 GB NIC recommendations for Z1 G5 Tower

Hello folks, the subject says it all - I'm looking for 10 Gb NICs that have been confirmed to work with the Z1 workstation on the latest BIOS (R01 Ver. 02.04.02 12/27/2019). Unfortunately the QuickSpec and the network cards compatibility guide for workstations has no information for the Z1 other than the integrated NIC. If you had to do a workaround to get a 10Gb NIC working, what did you do?  I do know that my Z1 will not post with multiple Intel X540-T2 cards - just black screen, no boot, no beeps. But my old EliteDesk 800 G2 boots fine with the x540-t2 cards, and they run like a champ.

Hi,

Sorry in advance, Im not a native speaker.

I have an issue with a Z 440. I can enter the BIOS but i cant do in an changes in it. The only thing, which worked, was setting a password.

If i try to change anything (eg. the options for Virtualization), the system crashes and no longer responds to keyboard. I have to switch off and restart.

Resetting to factory defaults and updating BIOS did not help.

BTW: I dont think its an Hardware issue, because it happened with two devices. I think, Im just doing the wrong thing. But where is my mistake ???

Help and advice is very much apreciated

USB ports, LAN, ATA and SATA ports are inactive after BIOS update from rev 2.20 to 2.50

Hi All,

A few days ago I updated my BIOS to the latest rev 2.50 from 2.20. the BIOS updated successfully but after restart all USB ports, LAN, ATA and SATA ports became inactive and I can't boot to windows anymore.

I tried critical bios recovery with the jumper which i found in the community and it also passed well but with no luck.

I found also that mouse, keyboard, PCIe and SAS are functioning and I also can access the BIOS menu.

Is there anyone who faced with this kind of issue?

Thanks in advance.
