Power connectors a HP Z4 G4 graphics card upgrade

Hi,

I'm attempting to upgrade from an AMD FirePro 3100 to a GTX 1660TI.  The GTX requires additional power, 8 pin Molex, and it appears that I have 2 6+2 connectors routed to the front panel area but are not connected to anything.

6+2 here means a single 6 pin connector where 2 wires are coming out of two of the pins into a 2 pin connector.  The first cable connectors are labeled G1(6pin) & G1-1(2pin).  The second cable connectors are labeled G2(6pin) & G2-1(2pin). Can I use one of them (g1/g1-1) to in effect create the 8 pin I need to power the GTX card?

Thanks

LSI2308 in Z840 - Drives not visible to Windows10

I have a Z840 workstation with an SSD drive in the SATA2-port 0 and Windows 10 Pro runs fine. Then there are four 3TB HGST NAS SATA III drives in the lower SAS ports 0 thru 3.

I configured a RAID 10 array and created a single volume to use the entire 5.457 TiB of space. I ran the initialization first in the LSI2308 Config Utility from BIOS. The volume is not visible to Windows 10. I then deleted the volume, reran the setup from LSI's MegaRAID manager in Windows. Same problem. After initializing for 12+ hours in both efforts, the array and volume are not visible in Windows 10 file explorer, nor the Intel RSTe.. I can see the disk0 space in Windows Disk Management as unallocated space, but cannot do anything with it. I can also see the initialized volume in the LSI 2308 MegaRAID manager. Cannot do anything with it.

What am I missing here? There is no place to format an NTFS on the volume. Can someone please help?? I'm not 4 days into this and no further along than I was on Day 1. HP Support spent 2 hours last night trying to assist but also could not figure out the problem.

Should I put the SSD bootable Win disk in the SAS ports as well (port 0) and move the RAID drives to ports 1-4?

Thanks for any ideas that work.

Z420 to Z620 Motherboard Swap?

$

Are the Z420 and Z620 motherboards basically identical aside from the connection for the riser for the second CPU in the Z620?

i have a Z620 with a E5-1660 v2 CPU (with Z420 liquid cooler) and a Z420 that also has a V2 motherboard though I forget which CPU it has.

I plan to keep the Z620 as a single CPU system and focus on maximizing single-core performance. I prefer the Z620 case and am wondering if I could swap the Z420 motherboard into the Z620 case. The lack of the riser connection on the Z420 motherboard would let me install a longer PCIe card in the top slot. That connector really limits the use of that slot on the Z620 motherboard.

I could eventually pick up another Z620 case to hold the V2 Z620 motherboard and reinstall the second CPU riser I have (pulled after I bought the Z620 V2 board and upgraded the processor) to build a second system with more cores for rendering or video transcoding.

I will be running Windows 10 on the E5-1660 v2 system and will trying to get MacOS running on the other system. So I’ll be using different graphics cards, etc. based on compatibility with MacOS.

new ssd not seen by device manager or storage manager

new Crucial 1tb ssd properly installed into slot and connected to the Drive 2 connections on the cable already used by boot drive does not show up in device manager or anywhere else.  Might as well not be there.  I looked in the f10 utility and couldn't find it or any way to search for it.

Any thoughts?

I have the identical issue to the post above after doing the same update through Windows 10. In my case my system froze without any progress indication.

Won't go into crisis recovery mode. Fans ramp up to full. Pulled out ALL additional CPUs, RAM bar one stick, GPU, all USB devices except the recovery stick. USB stick doesn't light up at all.

Pulling all RAM triggers error code otherwise just a blue light and full fan speed.

Ordered a new board but preferable if I could get this one working!

HP Image Assistant creates different Softpaqs.

Hello everybody,

I noticed that the HP Image Assistant (V. 4.5.4) sometimes creates different softpaq files.

Both files are different (size, icon, signatures, hash...), but the content is identical - looks like a different wrapper?

The right one is identical with the one which is offered for download on the server.

Both files works fine, but for reasons of comparison it would be good if all softpaqs were always identical.

Is this a bug of the HPIA?
Someone noticed the same thing?

Thanks and greetings,
Martin

HP EliteDesk 705 G4 DM Disconnects from network

So we decided to go out on a limb and buy 8 HP EliteDesk 705 G4 DM AMD version and we have a particular problem with every single one of them deciding to disconnect from the network after extended periods of inactivity like at night.  We have these in 2 locations so we know its not the network causing this issue.  I have disabled all power options in the BIOS.  I had disabled Green Ethernet and all the Ethernet settings that cause the nic to fall asleep.  Power Management is set to maximum performance.  There is another post on here with someone having the same issue.  Has anyone been able to figure this out and resolve this?  Everything is up to date on these via HPIA.  Its infuriating because the only way the nic will come back online is a reboot and I have pissed off customers.  Ive never had this issue with any Dell I have ever bought so this does not give me hope in HP to save a few bucks.

Drivers from HP via windows update - how can I identify them?

Hello,

I got the following three drivers or extensions installed via windows update:

HP Inc. - Extension - 11/14/2018 12:00:00 AM - 1.6.856.0
HP Inc. - Extension - 10/2/2018 12:00:00 AM - 1.5.750.0
HP Inc. - System - 4/6/2018 12:00:00 AM - 1.1.377.0

Is there a list somewhere where I can see what the things are for?

Thank you very much!

Martin

HP Support Assistant trying to use SNMP to discover network devices

Originally asked by Jwckauman

Once a week, the HP Support Assistant running on my computer sends out a SNMP broadcast in an attempt to discover other devices that it might be able to add to "my devices" and help support. This is causing some errors on some of the devices because we have locked down SNMP in a few places, and my Support Assistant doesn't have the credentials to query those devices. Is there a way to prevent HP Support Assistant from doing this weekly scan for devices via SNMP? I like having Support Assistant available for diagnosing issues on my PC and printer, but i don't need this device scan feature. How do I stop it? If you can't help, looks like we must just have to uninstall the software and not use it.

i want replace RAM DDR2 ECC DIMMs 4 x 1GB with 8 x 4GB

I want replace  RAM DDR2 ECC DIMMs  4 x 1GB  with  8 x 4GB

ACCORDING TO DOCUMENTATION ONLINE >>>

How to: HP xw6600 Workstation - Removing and Replacing the Memory

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-xw6600-workstation/3432821/document/c01319077

So I have some questions

After switching OFF the PC, remove the Power cable, remove other cables, rotate the PC so motherboard look the roof, remove PC case cover, remove the RAM fan, remove the case fan

I first

spray some compressed air to clean from dust the motherboard

remove the RAM DDR2 ECC DIMMs  4 x 1GB  in any order

insert the RAM DDR2 ECC DIMMs  8 x 4GB  in any order with convenience to me and according to Docs "How To",

and since I have 8 chips and 8 slots the insertion order does Not matter!!!

Please confirm - is any Error in this procedure or I am right ???

After put the fans in place and connect cables and power on the PC.

I cannot get the T610 to boot up. Power light lights up, but no error code is being emitted audibly or visually. The flash memory card has been checked in another client and the cmos battery has been renewed. Don't know what to try next. Absolutely nothing comes up on the screen.

anyone successfully running dual nVidia 1080's or better on an HP Z800?    I have 1110 W psu, but power cabling still a bit tricky, apparently...    and perhaps GPU driver choice might also be an issue.    (SLI not the issue, as purpose is only rendering, not gaming.)      thxs in advance for any experience...
