HP Z840 hardware upgrade issue

$

We have multiple HP Z840  that are getting an upgrade to dual processor and 192GB of RAM and we are getting different results.  We have upgraded to the 4/2019 release of the BIOS and problem persist.

- 1st instance, We have a HP Z840 dual processor that will only upgrade to 128GB properly.  If we add another 64GB to bump it to 192GB, we received the 5 beep codes that indicate a possible RAM module.  We replace the RAM module and still received the 5 beeps.  We also used the suspected bad RAM module on another HP Z840 and it worked on a different machine.

- 2nd instance, HP Z840 dual processor setup, workstation boots up properly if RAM is only installed on CPU 0 memory slots and CPU 1 memory slots are empty.  Once we add RAM to the CPU1 memory slots, we received the 5 beep codes again.  We replaced with brand new "out of the box" RAM and problem persist

- 3rd instance, HP Z840 dual processor setup, 192GB RAM.  We did not received any 5 beep codes on this workstation but nothing shows on the screen and the CPU fan continues on a high rev and will not slow down or stop unless we power the workstation down.

P.S we have upgrade over a dozen HP Z840 we the same configuration and RAM but recently getting a set of workstation exhibiting the problems above.  RAM specs is "16GB 2Rx4 PC4-2133" 1.2v registered dual rank RDIMM

Z640 hanging at boot

My HP Z640 is hanging a at power-up. The symptom is an almost completely blank screen (there is a small white line in upper-left corner). If I press the ESC key, I get the "entering startup menu" message, but nothing happens after that, the screen stays the same for hours. I cleared the CMOS settings this weekend and after manually changing BIOS settings as needed, the machine was working fine all weekend, but today the same behavior has returned and clearing the CMOS settings made no difference. What might be going wrong and what should I try next to resolve this? TIA

Fans on all the time on Z820

Hi, I've got an old Z820 workstation, and sometimes the system fans stay on full blast for no apparent reason - there's no workload, the system temperatures are all low, yet the fans are on full blast. Other times, they only come on under load. Any ideas why this might be, and whether anything could be done about it?

Thanks!

Foxconn 2abf and 1060 6g?

$

Good afternoon. There is HP C5Y17EA. Foxconn 2abf motherboard with integrated graphics card. Nvidia 1060 6Gb was delivered. And now the image is not displayed on the screen. BIOS is flashed with the latest version. How to fix to see the video card?

PSU was replaced by 500w.
All connectors and connections are checked. All working.
Trial and error revealed how to enable. You need to turn off the power from 1060 6 GB, boot with the image output of the integrated card, then restart the PC and at the time of restart to give power to the video card by switching all the wires from the monitor to it. And then there is a chance that the image will go as it should. But it's wrong and it shouldn't be. What could be the problem??

CCC Documentation Needed

Hi!

I have seen this question many times in the forums, but it always seems to come down to a direct email from the right person within HP.

I have shipped a system to a customer in China. Due to import regulations, they require the CCC (China Compulsory Certification) documentation to be provided.

Who can help me with this issue?

Regards,

Chris

HPDM Task Templates - moving to new server

I am moving my HPDM 4.7 from server 2008 to server 2016.  I have it running and most of the issues worked through.  The one issue I am having is the task templates I have made.  I can see them under task templates, but when I open them, there is nothing there.  For instance, I have several that push profiles to thin clients, but when I open them, there is no profile to edit.

901 Front Chassis Fan

Morning all,

Recently had a bit of an issue with a Z2 G4 - every time it boots, it gives me error 901, relating to a front chassis fan not being plugged in or malfunctioning. This is true, as the machine did not ship with a front chassis fan. Is there anything I can do to disable this error or remedy it, without doing the obvious of installing a fan?

Cheers

USB Flash Drive not recognized when USB3.0 support enabled in BIOS

When the USB3.0 setting in BIOS is Disabled (i.e., BIOS support for USB 3.0 in the Advanced settings tab), the Device Manager shows an unknown device, but everything seems to work.  When the USB3.0 setting in BIOS is Enabled, the correct driver is loaded and the unknown device (USB 3.0 hub?) goes away, but then a USB flash drive or DVD drive plugged into the USB ports isn't recognized at all.  It simply isn't there.  I've looked in Manage (Computer), Device Manager (by type and by connection), and tried plugging it in and unplugging it to see if anything changes.  The keyboard and mouse work fine either way.

HP Z4 G4 replaced Quadro p4000 with RTX2080

Hello fellow HP product users.

I have an HP z4 g4 with a 7940x, optane 900p, 1x 1TB nvme, 1x 512GB nvme, 1x 256 nvme, 2x 6TB RAID0 hdd's & a Quadro p4000. The PSU is a 1000watt unit.

I swapped the p4000 for a RTX2080. Sadly the PC hardlocks when I put the RTX under load. If i put it under small load (<60% TDP) I dont get a hardlock. When I put a very heavy workload (Furmark) on it it hardlocks in one second.

The PSU has 4x 6+2 for GPU power, and only two of those are connected to the RTX2080 (6pin and 8pin). I tried all different combinations of the 4 6+2 cables, but it hardlocks on all. One time after a hardlock I got a PCIe 928-Fatal error.

Could the RTX2080 be faulty, or could it be a power related issue?

When I check the slot settings  I see the auto setting for the RTX2080 is Gen 1 2,5.

I have tried:

Bios reset (bios is updated)

Tried different PCIe slots

Tried changing PCIe limit from Auto to Gen 3.

Thanks for your advice.

EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF why BIOS 2.71 in downloads but 2.77 via security bulletin?

$

Hi

I was certain the 800 G1 SFF would get a BIOS update for Microcode Updates for MDS processor bugs yet the officially listed version for this model is a version 2.71 from 2017 whereas if you search for security bulletins on this model you can locate a 2.77 for this model from this year? (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06330149)

Is there a reason as to why HP doesn't list 2.77 as the latest version for this model in the downloads section?

I have recently upgraded to HPDM 5.0 from 4.7 R12 and I am having issues creating/saving new templates. I am able to modify a template, but I am not able to create a new ones. I am using admin accounts on both the server side or the client console.  When I try to create a new template with either _File and Registry or  _Template Sequence, the Save as and OK buttons are grayed out.  Any help would be appreciated.

HP ProDesk 490 G2 - BIOS update failed, not able to recover

$

Hi Gents,

can I please ask for your help in this topic as I drove myself crazy already not being able to find any information from HP's side. The description of the issue:

I bought a HP ProDesk 490 G2 recently, but due to BIOS issues I couldn't boot Linux just manually, so I updated the BIOS from within the BIOS, everything went fine judging the information what I got from the updater, however on the reboot the PC never came back and I'm just getting 8 long beeps with red flash on the power button.

Given the beep codes it is BIOS ROM issue, now I thought that a recovery from this state is easily possible, however no matter how hard I try with USB stick or even CD-ROM, I can't get it to recover the BIOS image from neither of those sources... I tried CD because it is not even trying to access the USB stick, the closest to this topic what I found was only this thread on HP forums: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/BIOS-update-failed-now-won-t-boot-with-8-beeps-no-video-on/td-p/6421122/page/3

Thank you very much for any help/ideas on this topic as I can't believe that this is the end of a motherboard.

Cheers,

westerneer

HP Prodesk 400 G3 SFF Business PC won't boot

Hi

I have a HP Prodesk 400 G3 SFF Business PC that won't boot, on powering up it bleeps twice with red light on power button followed by two bleeps white on power button. The two red bleeps are longer than the white bleeps. After repeating the above 5 times the audio stops and it continues to flash in the same sequence.

Can anyone tell me what this means.

Thanks...

Issue with HP Sure Sense and Lacerte 2018

$

Customer is 20 user CPA firm, running Lacerte Tax Software, which brings out a new version each year. Lacerte 2019 will be rolled out December 2019 and will require Win10 so the new computers are being installed with Win10. There are two z1 in use. These all came with Sure Sense Anti Malware. There are 3 more z1 on the network being setup but not rolled out to users.

The z240 have been upgraded in place to Win10. The z230, z220, and z210 are going to be replaced with the z1 units.

The two new units with Sure Sense both went "bang" last night at about the same time. Both Sure Sense logs show malware in Tax18.exe at 5:26. They flashed up a message about Sure Sense, crashed Lacerte 2018 and completely deleted all the data in that client. Previous night backup don't have any of today's work, which is $thousands$ for each client.

Lacerte was bought by Intuit a few years ago so they are first to be suspected. However, the z240 upgraded to Win10 that don't have Sure Sense or the rest of the new HP security software didn't go bang and of course the Win7  machines have been working great for a decade.

So did Sure Sense cause the problem and crash Lacerte or did Lacerte go "bang" and Sure Sense caught the failure as attempted exploit?

The only two computers with Sure Sense trashed the data. The other 2-3 Win10 units and the 2-3 Win7 units in use in Lacerte at that moment did not.

I have recently purchased an HP Z600 with 2 x e5504 , it runs without issue, when I try to upgrade using ANY 55xx/56xx chip other than the 5504 it will not post...it runs for about 15 secs then fans spin up to 100%. I have tried resetting bios, reflashing to 3.61, every trial and error I can think of...1 cpu, 2 cpu, everything removed but cpu , with exactly the same results . is there something in bios that prevents the removal and replacement of parts ?
