SSD Upgrade - T530 Thin Client

$

Hello team,

We currently own several HP T530 Thin Clients. Since our requirements increased, we would like to upgrade the M.2 SSD. Our SSD option is the Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA M.2

We upgraded each unit according to the official "Hardware Reference Guide" document ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05951129 ).

Unfortunately, when we turn on the units it keeps showing the HP logo and nothing happens. We cannot go into the BIOS setup (ESC), we cannot boot from a different boot device. The power led is green, there are no BIOS beeps or sounds, just the blue HP logo. Keyboard does not seem to respond. Each unit is running the latest BIOS 1.07 .

Kindly advise what to do.

Thank you,

Iosif

Tell me please. Where in Bios to disconnect / connect USB devices. HP does not see my card reader.
He has already done everything possible, could not. My English is bad, maybe something is wrong in the BIOS.
Maybe there is a video instruction on how to do this. I will be glad to any help.
 Thank . Sincerely, Alexander Bolotin.

How to make Z420 workstation boot without keyboard ?

$

Gentlemen,

I am using an old Z420 workstation as my home network file server (NAS) running the UNRAID solution.

UnRaid is a Linux based solution which only boots up from a USB flash drive.

I've updated my BIOS workstation to the last version (3.95A) and have been trying all possible bios settings regarding boot and USB ... But up to now I was UNABLE to make it boot from the flash drive attached to the rear of workstation (yes I have tried different ones as well including at the front) without a manual keystroke.

When I leave the system to boot by itself (as it should be) it always ends up on a completely empty screen with nothing else than cursor blinking. (no error messages or anything else)

In order to make it work I have to press F9 (Boot menu) during POST and then point the flash drive... and then it works perfectly.

I have tried everything I could've think of... Including setting up Unraid to boot as UEFI or Legacy and apparently it does not make any difference.      So far I could not figure this out.

What can I possibly doing wrong here ?   Any ideas?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

HP Compaq 6000 AIO business Bios Password reset?

$

After trying every lead on the internet, I found a video of a youtuber stating business class desktops and laptops cannot have their bios passwords reset conventionally and would need a special file from HP to put on a legacy type usb drive to flash. Is this correct? If so can anyone help me get a file for my system? I purchased 3 HP Compaq 6000 pro AIO units from a liquidation and found that the bios has been locked. They came with no hard drive or ram and I had to purchased those separatley... now I have to get these to work or I will be in a bigger hole.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

z240 Tower Intel ME(BX) cannot activate

Hi,

i have a HP z240 running Ubuntu 18.10

flashed the newest BIOS before Installation (01.76 Rev.A)

Now i want to activate Intel ME (enable AMT in F10 Bios Setup), but all i get at Boot is

"Boot up problem: 'Soft Temporary Disable. To Enable ME, check Active Management (AMT) option in F10 Setup"

when i press CTRL-P at boot nothing happened.

I have reset the BIOS to default Settings, cleared it with the "Clear Button" - nothing changed

I have read on the support Page that there is a known Problem with older Intel ME Firmware like

"Version:11.8.60.3561 Rev.A

- Resolves an issue with Intel ME becoming non-functional after a FW update.
- Resolves AMT provisioning issues."

So i try to flash a new Firmware, but that is not possible, because Firmware flashing needs running Intel ME ..

Tried to Downgrade the BIOS to (1.67 Rev.A)  does not change the situation - unable to flash and unable to activate

so i think i need your help, thanks

Can I connect a desktop to a HP Elite Slice?

$

I'm looking at the HP Elite Slice to use for a Teams conference room and it's an interesting bit of kit that would make conference room usage easier. While it's good for those just wanting to make a call i'm wondering how I can get the ability to view/share content from other sources while in a call. Thinking for example someone wanting to demo a piece of software. Is it possible to connect a desktop to the slice and if needed have a user log on to that and then share content from that via the Teams call taking place on the slice?

8300 Elite no longer starts from DVD/USB after Bios Update

Hello,

I've got a weird behaviour here with a 8300 Elite after I updated the Bios from very old V2.57 via V2.99 to the recent V3.08: It no longer starts from DVD or USB.

I tried all settings in question (Legacy on, Quick Boot and Secure Boot off, Boot from removable devices on....)
and even reset the bios with the physical button on the system board.

Windows 7 works fine, but strangely enough since the update the boot animation is completely gone.
During the boot only a short line (a bit longer as a cursor) is displayed.

Has anyone noticed anything similar?

Thank you,
greetings

Martin

What I've done to my first love, the awesome Z800?

Lately I’ve been thinking of a solution to host some of the blogs and projects I have on a dedicated server. My ISP provided me with some static IPs and two connections of 1 GB/s (up / down). Of course, my first love came through my mind: the Z800 workstation, my first love. Because I work a lot in the photo/video industry, I bought another system, custom-made so I cheated on my first love.

She was upset and retreated to her room, in a corner, and covered herself with clothes that I no longer wore and kept to donate to someone.

I thought to myself … what if …?

I left all the projects aside and ran to buy some old clothes from Chanel: 48 GB RAM, two SSDs, a few SAS hard drives, a controller for them and I got the job done. I must admit that I had a moment of nostalgia, a kind of bad opinion about myself mixed with joy. I thought about how long I used this workstation. As I learned to work in Photoshop and Premiere… awesome times.

I should point out that Z800 never had any problems. So I put on the cleaner, wiped the dust, replaced various stuff.

Then I installed Centos with WHM / Cpanel. I removed the graphics card because my old love now has another role in my life and no need to show the world what she is capable of. Now she runs silently and breathes like a newborn. 🙂

However, I have a question. Any idea where from can I buy some USB 3 controllers? 🙂

Note 2: I have posted this content to one of my personal project's page as well.

Cant start windows after ssd replacement

Hey guys, so I have this desktop "hp 280 g1 mt business pc" and I decided to switch its ram and add an SSD, all was in working order until I tried to move windows from the HDD to the new SSD by fresh windows install.
I made a boot flash drive and went through the process, it all looked good but when I tried to start the pc it shows me the message "No boot disk detected or the disk has failed"with many other none important lines (product warranty, etc).
I tried changing the boot order putting the SSD first, didn't work, tried deleting and repurposing all the drives, even tried forcing the pc to run the SSD first by disabling/disconnecting the hard drive nothing...
I'm really struggling here, this is a friend's pc from work an I really can't let him down...
thanks a bunch!

HP Z2 G3 USB Coonection Problems

Hi All

Recently updated my SSD to a 1TB.  Did a full system restore I had created with Clonezilla.  During the restore I had to switch the BIOS to see Legacy devices to see the boot USB.  Everything restored great.  Switched BIOS back to Disable Legacy and Enable Secure Boot.  The only issue I have is that now I cannot see my Samsung T5 External SSD and a Seagate 4TB P/N 1K9APV-500 External Drive.

Prior to the update I was able to see both devices through my powered USB hub.  I can still see my QNAP DAS (configured as JBOD) and all other devices (flash drives, DVD drive, etc...).

In addition I tried to connect to the USB 3.1 ports and the USB C ports directly.  No luck.

As a test of the devices I am able to connect to my Specter X360 with both devices.  They read and write just fine.  This tells me there is something going on with the Z2 G3.

Have updated all drivers and used the HP Assistant to check for problems.  None reported.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

Latest Bios Update

Is the latest bios update released in May 2019 safe? I am currently on 2.29 and want to know if I should upgrade. I got my pc used and it has a weird issue that may be related to the 2.29 bios. It basically powers on the pc after each power loss and the bios is set to stay off after each power failure. I suspect the bios version I have  is the problem, but either way, is the latest bios version safe? 2.29 sucks

RAID capacity and verify

Z800 working fine with 4 x 1.5T disks in RAID 5

One disk failed, all probably 10 years old, can't buy 1.5T disks so bought 4 x 2G disks

To my surprise controller formatted them as 6T (5.45T) RAID 5

Workstation is permanently on.

All ok until power cut. System restarted in "verify" status

Since then every time we have a power problem the controller goes into verify mode and takes two days to recover.

I have always understood that Z800 RAID BIOS only allows max of 1.5T disks, hence my surprise at 6T array.

If I reformat the array to 4.5T is this going to solve the problem ?

If I do, what actual number should I enter in the configuration screen ?

thanks

Thin Clientse error when trying to image device from HPDM

I am updating our thin client OS from 5.2 to 6.2 and I keep getting a lot of failures where they fail to cache the image due to lack of space. ErrorCode: 1065984, Error Info: ../../CachedUpdates/ImageTaskFile.cpp@518: Failed to check the space. and then I see. ./../Task/linux/ImageTask_Thinpro.cpp@1404: Disk free space is not enough for cached image operation. The fix is re-image the device via a USB key but I have some failures where we aren't allowed to take the USB key into the area. Is there anything I can do from the HP device manager console?

Neccessary CPU heatsink for E5 1680 v3

$

Dear community,

I´m using a 3 year old Z440 workstation running a Xeon E5 1620 v3 quad core CPU for 3D-Design and rendering. The CPU heatsink is the standard HP 749554-001 that came with the system. I´ve got my eyes on a refurbished E5 1680 v3 octa core CPU to bring the workstation up to date, being able to use it for another 2 to 3 years.

The question is, is anybody running the 1680 v3 CPU with the standard heatsink and can recommend it or will I need I need to buy the HP Z Cooler (HP P/N: 781907-001) to keep it from overheating. The HP Z cooler manual says so, but I thought I´d get some advice from all of you :).

And yes, the machine might be continuously  rendering 3D jobs for for 2 to 3 days .

Best regards

Chris

Hi,

I am setting up a Xen server upon a debian Linux on a Z800 workstation.
I have seen previous people giving up on this task.

          https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z800-E5620-vt-d-amp-vt-x/td-p/6555598
My question:
is it possible to get a workaround to make it work (sth on bios or card or whatever prevent execution ) ?
I guess some bios patch from HP should solve it but..

here output from XL dmesg:
