I have installed the Intel RSTe software/drivers, and I'm in the process of creating a RAID 1 array with two equal sized (8TB) drives on the a Z620. These drives are on the Intel C600+/C220+ chipset SATA RAID controller.
A few questions:
A) Is there any performance hit for running RAID 1 as set up this way?
B) If one of the volumes goes bad, what's the process to fix things?
1) Delete the RAID volume
2) Remove the bad drive
3) Replace the bad drive
4) Recreate the RAID 1 volume?
If one of the disks goes bad, will the RAID contoller continue to use the good drive until the volume is deleted and the bad drive is replaced?
Is there anything funky about these two drives in the RAID 1 array? That is, could i pull one (assuming it's good) and use it in another computer as -is. Or would i have to delete the volume first to use it?
Thanks.
