As stated in the topic I have an old xw6200 Workstation with 2 Xeon 3.2Mhz processors with Win7 64-bit, SCSI board, Nvidia Quadro graphics card, 8GB RAM and two optical drives, one of them CD/DVD-RW.
Early I realised none of the optical drives were functioning inside Win7 environment, neither were recognised its icons.
However they work correctly when I boot some tools from a CD/DVD, and the BIOS identifies them as well.
The History:
The Workstation was bought with no OS installed.
I partitioned the HDD, and the System worked very well with Win8 and Win7 in Dual Boot during several years, reading and writing CD/DVDs. Until I realise optical drives were not detectable in both OSes.
Was it due to an automatic update of the drivers or any security inhibition (Windows Update)? I don't know.
I tried to solve this issue of the System (both Win8 and Win7) using the official HP drives. No update was capable to solve the issue. The message appearing was sort of 'The drive installed is up to date'.
After many hours, I formatted the HDD and tried to restart a clean installation.
No way!
Neither WinVista 64bit, neither Win7 Ultimate 64bit, neither Win8 Professional 64bit (none of this versions are OEM) were capable to proceed. In all the tries, at the begining, appeared the message 'CD/DVDdriver is missing'.
I didn't try Win10 just because the machine or its BIOS does not support it. I know Win8.1 was not possible to install by Microsoft Store due to incompatibility issues, when the machine was fine.
So, the problem remains: I need the drivers for optical drives "HL-DT-STDVDRRW GWA-4166B" and "HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B".
Without them the machine is useless.
Can some technician help me please? I would much appreciate it!
