Upgrading hp xw9400 workstation cpu's with quadcore

Hi everyone,

I bought a used hp xw9400 workstation from ebay.
When it arrived i found it had 2 dualcore opteron cpu's.
Now i want to upgrade the workstation to 2 quadcore opteron 2376 cpu's.
Accurding to hp it should be compatible IF my bootblock and bios is from a certain date:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktops-Archive-Read-Only/HP-xw9400-processor-up-grade/td-p/5062315
Now my bios version is V04.05 wich is good, but my bootblock date is 10/12/07 wich according to the info given in the link should support quadcore opteron 2000 series cpu's with rev. B3.
Now my problem is is that the cpu i want to use is a rev C2 and not B3.(i believe the rev is the cpu stepping value).
I should have a boot block date of 09/12/08 or later for C2 rev. Cpu's.(according to the link)
So my question is:
Can i use a opteron cpu with a different rev.?(cpu stepping)
If not, how can i update the bootblock as i read that some peaple have done it?
What does the rev(or cpu stepping) actually mean?
And if it does support quad cores, will it also supprt opterons eith HE at the end?(i believe HE means low power).

I hope someone can help me,

Thanks in advance

edit:

I understand it if i cant discuss bios modding on this forum as it would risk bricking my bios/pc but i think it would be worth the risk when needed as the whole pc would be useless to me with only dualcores.
