boot up memory count error after workstation is unplugged

Hello,

I've owned an HPZ1 for about four years now.   It came packaged with 16 GB of ECC ram,  as four sticks.  Invariably, whenever there is a power outage OR the workstation happens to get unplugged, I get a boot-up message stating "incorrect memory count,  press to accept correction"........which, if effected,  has the machine boot up with 8 GB rather than 16.  HOWEVER, when I get this message  if I power down and restart the computer the issue ALWAYS goes away, booting normally (with the correct memory count)

What could be causing this? I purchased the system after market from IT Creations out in California.  The first Z1 presented the same issue and I returned it.  They FEDEX aired a replacement overnight (four years ago)........and exactly the same issue.  Their tech support had no explanation for it.  Otherwise, the computer  (equipped with two SSDs and Quadro3000) works wonderfully well.

What could it be?
